Back to business as usual

Now that the dust has settled, we’re back to doing the things we love to do…working in the gardens, taking care of the girls, designing, stitching and sewing for me and reading, listening to music and chilling for Mr. Painted Quilt…

and counting the days until our new Westie puppy arrives!

westie puppy 3

I don’t know which one but he’s one of the furbabies in the picture above.

I can’t believe it!  Just this afternoon we received confirmation and pictures from the breeder that all the pups have made it past the two week crisis period and are doing fine…

and one of the males has been reserved for us!

Now we have to wait until mid August because they have to be at least 8 weeks old before we can bring him home.  We’re thrilled beyond belief!

Mr. PQ and I started working in the new flower beds around 10 a.m. and finally called it quits at 1:15 p.m.  It took us all that time to edge, plant a few blue hydrangeas that our neighbor gave us and spread and level some mulch.  We’ll probably tackle the other bed on Monday and then that’ll be it for this year.

The flowering dogwood is in full bloom.  It is absolutely gorgeous and the photo does not do it justice.

The fragrance from the rose garden is intoxicating.

And would you have a look at the girls!  They have grown by leaps and bounds and absolutely love their new home in the coop.

Look at these two hanging out on top of their feed dish…

DSCN1203

and the other two hunting bugs in the corner.  There isn’t a fly or bug to be found in their coop because they snatch them up in an instant.

One day this weekend we will open the doors and allow them to go outdoors to free range.  From everything that we’ve read and been told, they will find their own way back to their food and water inside the coop.

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!

The much-needed rain that fell while we were away made a big difference in our little kitchen garden.  Everything doubled in size almost overnight and we’ll probably be eating our own lettuce in another three or four days.

Tomorrow is market day, my favorite day of the week.

You’ll know where I’ll be, bright and early.

So happy you have your 'puppy in waiting' after such a horrible experience. All your flower and vegie beds look fantastic and soon your girls will be gleening all the pesky bugs from them.

They are so tiny, can't wait to see them as they progress and maybe she will know by then, which one will be your little guy. Your chicks looks like they are loving their new home.

I know that feeling, waiting, waiting, tick tick...the time seems to go so slowly and then all of a sudden you have your new little bundle of terrier wonderfulness! I have a scottish terrier myself. My friend had a westie for 16 years. Love your chooks too. We are getting some soon and I can't wait. Look forward to seeing your little boy pup soon.

Such cute little fuzzy puppies. So glad you have one reserved.
Love your yard. Glad your roses are scented. It is so disappointing these days to see a beautiful rose, take a sniff and smell nothing. So many are bred just for color. I always make sure the varieties I plant have a nice scent--to me that is half the beauty of a rose. : )

THe puppies look adorable. i'm glad to know they got through the most critical period. Now you just have to wait ( I know the waiting is horrible ) but you'll get your new friend in no time. Do you already have a name?
Your garden looks wonderful. I love the roses.

OMG! Kaaren, What an adventure you had.
I can just see mr dh going up to the door and seeing this man.
Not all kijiji is bad. We purchased our Fergus from a kijiji ad and he is beautiful/handsome.
I know he has no papers but we were ok with that. I did receive vet info and called it. It was on the up and up. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I hope the time goes fast for you and so happy you have decided to fill the void. Happy Canada DaY!

You must be sooooo excited. How fun it is to have pictures of the wee ones too.

The garden looks so healthy and beautiful. I hope the girls will not bother the veggies.

Our chickens always headed back to the coop when dusk set in. They are much smarter than turkeys!

At first I thought that picture was wool getting ready to be spun! Aren't they just so warm and fuzzy and adorable! I'll be counting the days along with you and Mr. PQ, Kaaren! The garden is looking spectacular! Did the Rutgers tomatoes make it? Oh and Les Girls - what beautiful big eyes they have! Bet you can't wait for some beautiful, but eggs!
Cheers!

So glad to hear all the puppies have survived and that in a few weeks you will have another little family member!!! Yes your girls do look quite grown up now and I'm sure will just love to be pecking around the grass looking for delicious titbits very soon! Just love your dogwood tree, I'll have to check out whether we can get them here, they are just delightful looking plants!

Love that you are getting a new puppy! I told my husband about a blogging friend who had been through cancer and then to come home and lose her precious little dog was just too sad. I'm so thankful, new life is coming back into your world! I loved the tour of your beautiful place in Nova Scotia. You're the only person I've ever known to live in NS...it sounds like such an exotic place to live. I would love the climate I think. So I enjoy when you give us a glimpse of life in NS!!

Kaaren, I'm so glad to hear you will be getting a new puppy after all. Those little babies are adorable! I am so sorry you went through that horrible experience - but you did good in the end, saving those precious beings and stopping at least that operation. I so look forward to watching your new little grow and will celebrate with you when you bring him home!!

Can't wait to hear what you name him.
Do you by chance know the name of that beautiful rose? Your flowerbeds look great. Wish mine were that nice.
